So, I know I have already mentioned the short film I shot last week but during production I tried to take some stills as well. You can never have enough materiel to help promote your film. Anyway, I thought I would write about the experience. While the shoot was only three days, it did feel much longer as our days were long. Working in the camera department often means you are first on set and last to leave. I like to try and learn something from every job and this particular shoot offered me some challenges. Unfortunately time (as it often is) was our worst enemy. I personally prefer to shoot with more structure and planning however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I found myself trying to get the best possible shot from what was provided. It was at moments, very guerrilla. As I mentioned above, I also found the days long and physically demanding. I did some hand held work with my 85 mm lens which after a few takes really took it out of me. Having the right gear for the job can make life easier for you.. My wish list may have just doubled!

So I have been a busy bee last week shooting a little short film called 'The Usher'. The story is set at a theatre and even though it feels like central London has one at every corner, no one would let us film unless we paid stupid money for the privilege. Cue our good friends Jono and Claire to the rescue. Last year they moved to Bradford to run The New Bradford Playhouse (https://www.facebook.com/newbradfordplayhouse?fref=ts). It was so good to see them both, no one gives hugs like Jono and if felt like no time had passed since our last meeting. While I had a 5 minutes coffee break, I took some photo of the cafe/bar. It had the most amazing creative atmosphere, full of eccentric nicknacks. If you are in the area go take a little look, I dare you! It is not everyday you see someone practicing tight rope walking. From the distance this man honestly looked like he was walking on sunshine. I was happy I had brought my camera along to capture his practice session. It was an amazing experience to watch as he gracefully walked back and forth. I know it is very British to be obsessed about the weather but snow in April? I think we are all allowed to whine about that. While it is still a little chilly, it is lovely to finally have some sunshine. Together with my boyfriend, I grabbed my camera as everything looks better with a bit of sunlight, and we went for a big long walk. It was nice to see everyone out making the most of a sunny afternoon. |
