Expensive taste - Part 1

25/11/2013

A long time ago, I realised I had expensive tastes. Don't get me wrong, I don't like something because it is expensive but show me three dresses and without fail the one I love will be the the one with the bigger price tag.  This is something I have know for years, nothing new here.

Now, when you work in production it is the same thing all over again and quality is expensive. Fall in love with a lens (as you do), suddenly this lens becomes a must have! I mean, it will benefit my work after all. Just don't look at the price tag as that should have been my flight home (sorry mum if you are reading this - although if it is any consolation, this 'new' lens is my favourite).

Unfortunately, as much as I would like too I can not have everything I want for my own kit (well not right now at least). So it is always refreshing when people come up with more purse friendly practical options. In my opinion, one of the most valuable skills on set is the ability to think outside the box when problem solving.

I was given cinetics (check out their amazing website conveniently found here http://cinetics.com/) and a gorillapod to accompany my camera. Justin (watch the video), is a total genius and in my mind a hero. Stable camera movement creates captivating cinematic footage. I am in love with just how easy these wheels are to use and transport.

So, now for 'Part 1'. A closer look at the lust worthy gear mentioned above.

Meet my friend

Meet my friend Hannah Tuson. Hannah and I used to work together back in the day. We had been talking about me taking her photos for ages but life in London sometimes gets in the way.

Anyway, as you can see from the pictures below we finally made it happen and just before Hannah moved to New York. I can not tell you how much fun this shoot was, constant case of the giggles. I am really happy with how these pictures turned out. I wanted something a little more personal and creative, something the truly represented Hannah's character.

If you need some new photos please get in contact.

The most beautiful season

I am sure I have written about this before but fall is one of the most beautiful seasons. While I try not to dwell on the fact that winter is just around the corner (time to hibernate), I am always taken back by just how breath taking the changing colours of the leaves can be. It is like a final bright good bye before winter approaches and our days disappear into darkness.

I love the fact I live close to two commons. So while I should have been inside working, I escaped with my camera and enjoyed some sunshine. Here are some of the pictures I took today. Hope you enjoy them.

Just me and my camera

Again I have found myself spending many hours editing on my computer. It is always good to finish a project but I missed my camera so when I heard The Bedford Pub was holding The Balham Craft Fair I had to go and have a tea and cake, it was helping a worthy cause after all!
With 24 different stalls and Christmas around the corner, one was spoilt with stunning and unique gift ideas. I think it is important to support local and independent businesses.

I like pretty things, most girls do. Delicate jewellery, funky retro prints and cake are a way to my heart! So the stalls I really lusted after were Lemur Lady (www.lemurlady.co.uk), Crystal & Stone beautiful wearable jewellery (www.crystalstonelondon.co.uk) and of course the tea and cake stall! Doesn't take much to keep this girl happy, handmade retro printed bags, delicate jewellery and of course freshly baked cakes with tea. What a lovely way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.
